SPU means Spiking
2149-08-12 / terminology note 03
SPU expands to Spiking Processing Unit. The word names an event-oriented processing architecture. It is not an abbreviation of Sentience Processing Unit.
Why the distinction matters
Event dispatch, accumulators and a wide active set are implementation properties. A product brief should state the measured workload and timing conditions, rather than moving from efficient computation to claims about the experience of a system using it. Our specification database describes a fabric; it does not classify a being.
Revision 2149.3 / 2149-09-04
The annual heat column now names its operating days and heat-entry fraction. A prior workbook combined active and idle power into one coefficient; it has been replaced by the published two-term model. Integrators carrying earlier workbooks should retain their version labels and rerun comparisons under a common workload.
Integration clinic / 2151-09-17
The clinic’s recurring question was whether an allocation index could replace a thermal trace. The answer in the updated worksheet is to keep physical heat, instrument eligibility and price separate. A lower model estimate remains a hypothesis for measurement, not an account balance.
